In an interview with The UK Sun, Matthew Perry's ex-girlfriend Kayti Edwards says the late star taped his hands to his knees as a desperate way to stop using drugs.
Edwards, 47, was Perry's girlfriend in 2006 after meeting her at Alcoholics Anonymous meetings. They remained good friends and after the separation and in 2011, she was also the assistant of the actor of "Friends".
She recalled visiting the actor while he was in the darkest period of his addiction. "I was at his house in the Hollywood Hills. He was bad. He had been consuming a cocktail of substances all night, most likely crack, cocaine and other substances", she said, continuing: "I found Matthew on the sofa, with his hands attached to his legs. It was very sad. I used nail polish remover and olive oil to free his hands."
Edwards said the consequences were dire. "The hair was being pulled from his legs and there were red marks that were left behind. It was scary."
This is not the first time she has spoken about Matthew Perry's addiction. In a 2020 interview, Edwards claimed the actor used her to get her cocaine, heroin and crack while she was pregnant. "I was 5 months pregnant when I went to get things for him. He used to say: "No one will stop a pregnant girl, don't worry", she said.
Although, Kayti did not refer to the period when she met the actor. Jennifer Aniston, the actor's colleague and friend, said that a few hours before the actor passed away, they had exchanged messages. "He was happy, he was healthy. He had quit smoking and was getting back into shape. He was happy, I know," Jen said, adding: "I was texting him that morning. He was not feeling pain, he had no problems. He was happy", said the actress.
He continued: “I want people to know that he was healthy and getting healthier. He was working hard. I miss you so much. We all miss him. Oh God, how much he made us laugh."
Perry passed away on October 28 at the age of 54. The actor was found dead at his home in Los Angeles.
