Cameron Diaz was among the famous names to appear on the Epstein list, but she has categorically denied any connection to the much-publicized case of child trafficking and abuse. In a statement to ET, a spokesperson for the 51-year-old actress said she has never met financier Jeffrey Epstein.
"Cameron has never met Jeffrey Epstein, nor has she ever been in the same place with him or had anything to do with him, despite the fact that he may or may not have mentioned her name, or implied that he knew him", said the spokesman.
The statement comes after more than 900 pages of documents were made public on January 3. The published list contained the names of more than 100 well-known public figures who have been associated with, or simply mentioned by, Jeffrey Epstein.
In the case of Cameron Diaz, her name has been mentioned by one of dozens of girls who have filed accusations against Epstein. Johanna Soberg, who testified in 2015 about her terrible experience on "Epstein Island", mentioned the names of: Cameron Diaz, Leonardo DiCaprio, David Copperfield, Naomi Campbell, etc.
Sjoberg said he has not personally met the names mentioned, but has heard him mention Jeffrey Epstein during his phone calls. So the names on the list have not been charged with criminal activity.
Another girl (then a minor) has mentioned the name of Prince Andrew, the second son of the royal couple, Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip. Virginia Giuffre said that the prince touched the girls by the chest. Johanna Sjoberg stated that he also used a doll similar to his portrait and that Epstein's girlfriend had taken a photo of the girls with the doll in question, but they never saw the photo.
"I sat on Andrew's lap and they took the doll's hands and put them on Virginia's chest and Andrew put them on my chest," Johanna testified.
As for the Epstein list, it's not really a list. At least, it's not a list of clients, nor of people who have traveled to his island. Although several names are mentioned, they are mentioned in a variety of contexts.
Along with people who had sex with some of the victims, there are others whose names appear only because someone asked about them, or because they were victims themselves, or worked for Epstein as employees.
In the vast majority of cases, there is no evidence of criminal actions by the characters mentioned. For example, one of the accusers, Johanna Sjoberg, says that she met Michael Jackson at Epstein's residence in Palm Beach, but did not give him a massage (ie, did not have sex).
Virginia Giuffre, another Epstein victim, says she was sent to have sex with modeling agent Jean Luc Brunel during Naomi Campbell's birthday party.
In the documents, a lawyer asked Sjoberg: "I saw a report in the press that said you had met Cate Blanchett or Leonardo DiCaprio?"
Sjoberg replied: "I haven't met them, no. When I talked about them, it was when I was massaging him [Epstein] – and he was on the phone a lot at the time, and one time he said, 'Oh, that was Leonardo' or, 'That was Cate Blanchett, or Bruce Willis. " She confirmed that she "hasn't met" Blanchett, DiCaprio, Cameron Diaz or the other actors mentioned either.
Like these, there are other names of well-known personalities who are not necessarily involved in Epstein's criminal activities.
