The "Nothing Compares 2 U" hit singer passed away in July 2023, days after canceling her music projects to focus on her health. O'Connor was in a difficult situation after her son, Shane, committed suicide at the age of 17.
Sinéad O'Connor was born in Glenageary, County Dublin, in December 1966 and had a difficult childhood. As a teenager, she was placed in An Grianan Training Centre, in Dublin, originally set up to incarcerate young women who were considered promiscuous.
A nun bought her a guitar and hooked her up with a music teacher – from where her musical career began. She released her critically acclaimed debut album The Lion And The Cobra in 1987, which charted in the top 40 in the UK and US.
The second album was "I Do Not Want What I Haven't Got", which also included "Nothing Compares 2 U". Written by Prince, the song managed to top the charts around the world, including the US and the UK.

In 1991, she was named Artist of the Year by Rolling Stone magazine and received the Brit Award for Best International Female Solo Artist.
The following year, one of the most important events of her career occurred when she tore up a picture of Pope John Paul II on Saturday Night Live, where she was a guest. Her protest was related to the sexual abuse of children by the Catholic Church.
After that, she was permanently banned from appearing on NBC and there were protests against her in the US. "I don't regret doing it. It was great," she said in an interview with the New York Times in 2021. In January 2022, her 17-year-old son Shane was found dead after being reported missing two days earlier. .
The singer wrote on social networks that he had "decided to end his earthly struggle" and asked that "no one follow his example". She then canceled all live shows for the rest of 2022 due to the "ongoing pain" of her son's death.
O'Connor's last album, I'm Not Bossy, I'm The Boss, was released in 2014.
After converting to Islam in 2018, the singer changed her name to Shuhada' Sadaqat, but continued to perform under the birth name. She published a book of memories, "Rememberings", in 2021.
