Sofia Vergara has made a drastic transformation to fit the role of Griselda Blanco, known as the "godmother of cocaine" and one of the most notorious women in the world. Her story is related to the drug cartel that supplied cocaine to the Miami area.

With dozens of drug dealers and criminals on staff and under her command, Griselda ran the cartel with a ferocious fist (and a baseball bat).

She was born in Santa Marta, Colombia, in 1943, but moved to Medellín when she was still a child.

At that time, the city was considered one of the most dangerous in the world, and Griselda came into contact with the criminal world at a very young age, not yet a teenager. She started picking through people's pockets to make a living before she was 12 years old.

According to rumors, Griselda committed a serious crime at the age of 11, after kidnapping and shooting a child from a wealthy neighborhood.

At the age of 19, Griselda left home and made a living by stealing. He then moved to the US under a false name and false documents. Griselda, together with her husband, Carlos Trujillo and their 3 children, went to Queens, New York and there she started her "career" with the distribution of cocaine.

Over the next decade, Griselda would build a business that flourished. She was considered the "queen of drugs" and in 1975, she began to be pursued by the police, along with 30 of her subordinates. In a last ditch effort to avoid prosecution, Blanco again went to Colombia.

Years later, after escaping prosecution, she returned to the US and opened a store in Miami, Florida. Back then, Miami was teeming with people selling and using cocaine. With the clear intention of making money in Miami, Griselda quickly rebuilt her business and according to some research, she was bringing in 1,500 kg of cocaine a month, worth up to 80 million dollars.

was known as an innovator in the underworld, as she created compartments in her clothing that served as pockets to hide cocaine and smuggle it from Colombia to the US. She opened a factory that produced undergarments that could be used for this function.

Another "innovation" of hers was the fact that Griselda's subordinates shot from motorcycles at people with whom she might have a conflict. This idea was born due to the popularity of motorcycles and their ability to quickly leave the location. These were advantages, compared to shooting from machines, which often led to mis-targeting and accidental killings.

Përpos krimeve që kreu si një lidere në botën e kokainës, ajo nuk stepej t’i lyente duart me gjak, sidomos kur bëhej fjalë për jetën private. Griselda ishte martuar tre herë dhe në të trija herët, ishte përfshirë në vdekjen e tre burrave të saj.

Kur ajo u rikthye në Kolumbi në vitin 1975, kishte një biznes droge me Alberto Bravo, me të cilin edhe ishte martuar. Alberto qëndroi në Kolumbi për të drejtuar operacionin e përbashkët, ndërsa Griselda shkoi në SHBA. Në një moment, Griselda nisi të dyshonte se Alberto kishte vjedhur dhe s’ishte treguar besnik.

Ajo u grind ashpër me bashkëshortin dhe kur gjërat u përshkallëzuan, mori armën dhe nisi t’i gjuante. Alberto, nga ana tjetër, nxori po ashtu një pistoletë dhe të dy nisën të gjuanin drejt njëri-tjetrit. Kur plumbat mbaruan, 6 truproja kishin vdekur dhe Griselda ishte qëlluar në bark, ndërsa Alberto, në fytyrë. Griselda u shërua, ndërsa ai humbi jetën.

Një konflikt i ngjashëm ndodhi edhe me bashkëshortin e tretë, Darío Sepúlveda, me të cilin ajo kishte një djalë – Michael Corleone Blanco, i quajtur sipas personazhit të Al Pacino-s te “The Godfather”. Kur ata patën probleme, nisën një betejë për kujdestarinë e djalit. Darío donte ta merrte të birin në Kolumbi dhe Griselda e parandaloi duke e vrarë, në mënyrë që djali të jetonte me të.

Pas aktiviteteve të saj kriminale, ajo u arrestua në Irvine, Kaliforni,  në vitin 1985, pasi një prej vrasësit dhe zbatuesit kryesorë të planeve të saj, Jorge Ayala, iu kundërvu dhe u bë dëshmitar në anën e policisë. Griselda u akuzua dhe dënua për tre vrasje, pavarësisht se ende nuk dihet saktësisht se sa vrasje ka kryer.

Ajo u dënua për vrasjen e një fëmije 2 vjeç, Johnny Castro. Ai ishte fëmija i një ish-vartësi të Griselda-s, për të cilin ajo dyshonte se e kishte tradhtuar. Vrasësit e saj kishin si shënjestër “tradhtarin”, por në fakt, i qëlluan të birin.

Ndërsa mendohej se ky ishte fundi për Blanco-n, fati i buzëqeshi sërish. Ndjekja penale ndaj saj u rrëzua pas një skandali seksual, në të cilin përfshihej Ayala. Në vitin 1994, Griselda bëri një marrëveshje të re dhe u deklarua fajtore për tre akuza, për vrasje të shkallës së dytë. Ajo u dënua për 20 vite.

In 2004, Griselda, suffering from some health problems, was released and went back to Medellín. The city had been transformed and looked totally different from the one where Griselda had grown up. So, finding it difficult to dominate, Griselda led a quiet life without getting into trouble.

However, fate, this time, saw him. Ironically, although she didn't get into trouble, they still found their way to her. On September 3, 2012, as she was leaving a meat shop, two gunmen on a motorcycle drove past her, fired their guns and shot her in the head. Griselda succumbed to her injuries, ending her violent and turbulent life.

Griselda is survived by her son Michael. The three sons from the first marriage, Uber, Osvaldo and Dixon Trujillo, died before their mother, due to the drug trade.

Her story will be told on January 25 on Netflix, in the series "Griselda". The role of the "cocaine godmother" will be played by Sofia Vergara. The cast includes actors such as: Alberto Guerra, Christian Tappan, Martín Rodríguez, Juliana Aidén Martinez and Vanessa Ferlito.
