Fashion icon Iris Apfel has passed away at the age of 102

Iris Apfel has passed away at the age of 102. A photo of the interior designer, who appears smiling, was published on her Instagram account. The photo read: "Iris Barrel Apfel, August 29 - March 1, 2024."

Meanwhile, her death was confirmed by a spokesman, Stu Loeser, who told the New York Times that the icon had passed away at her home in Palm Beach. The cause of her death is still unknown.

Apfel is known for her colorful clothes, jewelry and large glasses, which inspired an exhibition held in 2005 at the Metropolitan Museum of Art's Costume Institute.

Iris started her career in the world of advertising, where she worked as a copywriter at "Women's Wear Daily", next to the interior designer, Elinor Johnson. In 1948, she married Carl Apfel, with whom she started a stationery firm and called it quits 44 years later. Carl passed away at the age of 100 in 2015.

Apfel, during her career, has been part of various design and restoration projects, including the renovation of the White House for 9 presidents: Harry S. Truman, Dwight D. Eisenhower, John F. Kennedy, Lyndon B. Johnson, Richard Nixon, Gerald Ford, Jimmy Carter, Ronald Reagan and Bill Clinton.

Apart from being one of the fashion icons, Apfel has also been an external lecturer at the University of Texas.
