When it comes to taste and enjoyment, ice cream tops the list. But, often before the temptation from this sweet sin is the fear that ice cream has too much sugar and artificial colorings, so the part of health awareness "wins" in quite a few cases. Fewer words, less ice cream!
What if you eat ice cream every day, especially on the eve of summer? Will this habit harm our health? We asked some nutritionists and here's what they said!
Is it wrong to eat ice cream every day?
Tamar Samuels, nutritionist and co-founder of Culina Health, is reluctant to label any food as "good" or "bad." "This causes feelings of shame, guilt and fear, potentially leading to an unhealthy relationship with food," she said. Plus, everyone has their own nutritional needs that can vary from person to person.
Ice cream is a high-calorie food, high in sugar and fat, that can be enjoyed in moderation in a healthy diet. The American Heart Association's recommended daily limit for added sugar intake is 36 grams for men and 25 grams for women.
Dietitian Edwina Clark says that despite the fact that ice cream is high in saturated fat and sugar, it can be a daily part of a healthy diet. "A scoop of ice cream every night in the context of a healthy diet is unlikely to destroy your health," she said. "In addition, ice cream is a source of calcium, magnesium and B12 and often provides pleasure and nostalgia, which are important functions of food," she says.
The protein and fat found in ice cream help slow the absorption of sugar, which is good for blood sugar. In addition, milk and cream are a good source of vitamin A, an essential nutrient for eye health and supporting immune function.
What about ice creams made from milk?
Ice creams that do not have a milk base have more sugar and fat. Therefore, artificial elements, sugar, preservatives or additional sweeteners are not the right products you need for your health.
Quantity matters
Whether you're going to enjoy fresh milk ice cream or store bought, quantity matters a lot. If you want to eat ice cream every day, watch the amount very carefully because it matters.
