
We have often heard of people who like sweet, salty things and less often those who like spicy foods. This can be a sudden desire that doesn't seem to happen without reason.
"Our cravings can be a sign of what the body may be missing or what it may need," explains nutritionist Jennifer Hernandez. This does not mean that every desire should be fulfilled immediately, but we should appreciate this sensation and make sure that we are giving our body what it needs.
But why do you crave spicy food? Here are six possible reasons.
#1 Blame it on your hormones
Cravings for spicy food during pregnancy are quite common and are often caused by hormonal fluctuations or simply a desire for a stronger taste. Even if you're not pregnant (or on your period), you're probably experiencing other hormonal changes that trigger cravings for spicy foods.
#2 You are sick
The desire for spicy food fights cold or blocked noses, since the heat it causes increases the temperature, thus it helps in the health part if you have a virus, fever, etc.
#3 You have too much body heat
By adding spicy foods to your diet, you help your body sweat. Remember that spicy foods help you stay hydrated longer because they increase your constant thirst for water.
#4 It's a mental or emotional thing
Sometimes, desires are a key to mental health, why not physical health. Spicy foods often release endorphins, the hormone that helps fight these feelings or various mental problems.
#5 Spicy food is part of your culture
Different cuisines or cultures in the world have an inseparable part of spicy food, so it seems inevitable not to consume such products in mass that make the mouth catch fire from the heat.
#6 You are bored
The desire for spicy food also happens when you are bored, but also from the desire to try a variety of new recipes, along with the complexity of the taste.
