For those who don't know, sardines are small fish that live in the ocean. A simple Google search will tell you that sardines are packed with vitamins, minerals and fatty acids, including magnesium, iron, calcium, vitamin D, zinc and potassium. But if you eat enough sardines, is it true that they make the skin clear and shiny? Many people on TikTok believe the answer is yes.

The short answer? Yes! Sardines are high in omega-3 fatty acids, antioxidants and vitamins, which help to brighten the skin. "Omega-3 fatty acids are known for their role in the inflammatory response, which plays a role in acne and helps maintain the skin barrier," says nutritionist Brianna Diorio.

What are the other skin care benefits of eating sardines?

So, sardines are a nutrient-dense food and eating them provides several different vitamins, minerals and anti-oxidants. "Eating sardines can help address skin-related issues like acne, aging and inflammation from problems like eczema and psoriasis," says esthetician Katya Khayutin. "The omega-3 fatty acids in sardines reduce acne severity and skin inflammation, while the protein and nutrients support collagen production, reducing wrinkles and fine lines."

An ideal amount of sardines is about 30 grams and it is good to include them in your diet, at least three times a week. But it is important to combine them with a rich diet, a skin care routine, sun protection, a healthy life with physical activity, etc.
