The well-known actress has decided to return to one of the most sensational events in her life, which apparently had a significant impact on her career as an artist. In an interview for "Esquire" magazine, the actress revealed the fact that she has been "controlled" all the time by Hollywood, especially after the theft scandal and all the attention that the media paid to this event.

"Yes, I was kept under surveillance and under surveillance for a long time," Ryder told the magazine when asked how she dealt with the aftermath of her arrest.

In 2000, the "Beetlejuice" star was arrested and charged with stealing $5,500 worth of clothing from Saks Fifth Avenue in Beverly Hills. A year later, she was convicted of shoplifting and sentenced to three years probation for that charge.

Ryder admitted that trouble with the law, especially after her sentence, had a "huge effect" on her acting career, something that came as a surprise to her in those years.

"I was very confused at the time. There were only a few papers I had to sign, and I even remember being told I had to go to jail for theft and I was just shocked,” she adds.

Immediately after the trial, Ryder broke away from acting for many years, even moving to live in Los Angeles in San Francisco. When she returned to the public eye, the actress says she was really "very scared", especially because of the way the media had badly "hit" her figure as a woman, but also as an actress.

"I felt like there was a big change in the culture and the film industry, especially after my comeback," she continues. "It was 10 or 15 years of separation, when everything changed. It was a very difficult period for me, which has left quite a few consequences in my personal life, but also as a public figure," concludes the actress.
