Nicole Kidman says she wakes up 'crying and gasping' at night because

Nicole Kidman is getting candid about mortality and her grief on the subject.

The "Babygirl" actress, 57, shared in a new interview with GQ that she's opened herself up to feeling emotions, instead of locking them up, after embracing her 50s.

Kidman said her emotions are "even more intense" in her mid-50s.

"Mortality. The connection. Life comes and hits you," she described some of the things she feels more intensely than ever.

“And losing parents and raising children and marriage and all the things that go with making you a completely sensitive person. I am in all those places. Such is life. It's definitely a journey.”

Kidman continued, "And it hits you all at 3 in the morning crying and gasping."

The Oscar winner recently mourned the death of her mother, Janelle, aged 84 in September, which prompted the actress to leave the Venice International Film Festival early to return home to Australia.

In October, Kidman opened up about her grief for her mother while attending the Lioness season 2 premiere in Los Angeles.

The actress admitted that it was a bitter taste to celebrate her career success without her mother around to share it.

"I wish my mom was here," Nicole told the media. "That would be the only thing I would say. Everything is great with work, but I wish my mom was here.”
