At the ceremony of the biggest event dedicated to film and cinema, it was impossible not to notice a kind of emptiness from the actors and celebrities who usually attend the ceremony. From nominated actresses, to those who were not even given a chance by the Academy, here are some of the reasons why these famous personalities may have been absent from the 2025 Oscars:
Nicole Kidman
After much speculation, the "Babygirl" actress has chosen not to attend tonight's Academy Awards ceremony. Kidman and her film "Babygirl" were famously excluded from this year's Oscars. This surprised many in the film industry and the public alike.
Zendaya
Although Zendaya has not released a statement confirming her decision not to attend the ceremony, her film "Challengers" was completely ignored, so we can't blame her for choosing to watch the event from home in her pajamas.
Angelina Jolie
Jolie had no pressing reason to attend the Oscars. The actress will not be presenting any awards and was 'rejected' from this year's Best Actress competition. 'Maria' was also almost entirely excluded from the Academy Awards. It only received a nomination for Best Cinematography.
Jennifer Lawrence
This year, the actress skipped the awards show for two good reasons. Lawrence is pregnant with her second child and is due soon. She was photographed in New York City on Wednesday and had no pressing reason to fly all the way to Los Angeles; she wasn't nominated for any Oscars this year and isn't hosting.
Margot Robbie
Robbie was not nominated for any awards, nor was she set to present one. She also recently gave birth to her first child in the fall. Robbie has not attended any public events since September, deciding to spend her first months as a mother away from the public eye.
Pamela Anderson
Anderson's absence from the Academy Awards is no surprise. The "The Last Showgirl" actress is not a presenter, nor is she nominated for best actress in a leading role. In fact, the film was 'eliminated' from the Oscars, and her apparent exclusion from the best actress race was seen as a slight by many.
Anya Taylor-Joy
Anya Taylor-Joy didn't attend the 2025 Oscars, despite the fact that her project, "Dune: Part Two," was nominated for best picture. It's worth noting that the actress had a very small role in the film, so it made sense that she chose to stay home for this year's ceremony.
Rihanna
The "Diamonds" singer has a lot to celebrate this year — developments with her Fenty Beauty and Savage X Fenty brands, the release of new music — but a new movie isn't one of them. That's why she wasn't at the Oscars tonight.
