You thought you've seen it all? Tik Tok just proved otherwise. A new trend is circulating among guys who have decided to shorten their eyelashes to look more "manly." Yes, yes, you read that right.
If you open Tik Tok, you'll find a ton of videos of men proudly showing off how they trim their eyelashes with scissors or a razor. And while some might say "my body, my choice," the question remains: When did long eyelashes become a problem for manhood? And more importantly, why is it so awful to have a feature that's perceived as slightly more feminine?
Okay, who decided that long eyelashes are "feminine"?
If we dig a little deeper, the issue isn't just eyelashes, but the gender expectations that society has constructed. Dr. Christina Geiselhart, an expert in men's mental health, explains that there's a huge emphasis on eyes as a "feminine" feature, which has led women to use mascara, eyelash extensions, and various treatments to make them longer and thicker. Meanwhile, for men, long eyelashes aren't even mentioned in their aesthetic discourse, much less described as "attractive" or "masculine."
But before you panic and grab the scissors, there are some very good reasons why you shouldn't go near your eyelashes with sharp objects.
The risk is real and your eyes don't deserve this.
The first and most obvious : You're putting something sharp in your eye. Why? One wrong move and you end up with an injury, which is no fun at all.
Second, eyelashes aren't just there for aesthetics —they have a protective function. They help keep dust, dirt, and other irritants out of your eyes. By cutting them, you're opening the way for all of these to fall directly into your eyes, causing discomfort, redness, and even infection.
So, guys, let's agree on something...
If you want to follow a new beauty trend, there are so many smarter options than trimming your eyelashes.
