Most of us spend most of our time with our partners. We share our secrets, worries, thoughts, and experiences with them. Naturally, we tend to lean on our partners in difficult times, just as they lean on us.
But that doesn't mean we have to tolerate all of their habits and behaviors. There is, in fact, one behavior that, according to research, can be destructive to your relationship without you even realizing it.
A study published last April in the journal Sex Roles found that one way to maintain a happy relationship is for couples to share household chores. On the other hand, eating habits can negatively affect your relationship, especially if they are considered unhealthy. And while you can create a schedule for housework or fit what you eat into your daily routine, there is one habit that can be very difficult to change because you don't even realize you are doing it.
We've all been there. One moment we're sleeping soundly, and the next a strange, especially loud sound wakes us up. It's none other than snoring. Especially if you're a light sleeper, snoring can keep you awake all night, making it impossible to get any rest.
A recent study of 2,000 respondents found that sleep problems were very important to over 70% of participants, 78% to be exact. It also showed that 2 in 5 Americans have ended a relationship due to sleep difficulties and habits like snoring.
Snoring was a concern for a large percentage of participants. According to the survey, the person surveyed would 'tolerate' their partner's snoring for an hour and then ask them to switch sides or sleep in another room.
Unfortunately, this process affects the quality of sleep, but also our performance the next day.
The solution that most couples find
"Sleep divorce" is what most couples prefer as a solution to the snoring problem. To avoid arguments, they choose to sleep in different rooms.
However, experts suggest that each couple find a solution that works for them and that they are both happy with. You can also make changes to your lifestyle that will help reduce snoring.
