Talks on the second phase of the ceasefire between Israel and Hamas have failed so far and it is unclear whether they will resume on Saturday, a senior Hamas official said. 

The first phase of the ceasefire stopped fifteen months of fighting in the Gaza Strip and enabled the release of 33 hostages in exchange for nearly 2,000 Palestinian prisoners. 

The first phase of the ceasefire was due to expire on Saturday, according to the agreement.

The Israeli military carried out massive attacks on the Gaza Strip overnight after a ceasefire failed. At least 339 people were killed as a result, the Hamas-run Health Ministry said.

This is the largest wave of airstrikes in Gaza since the ceasefire began on January 19.
