Ben Affleck has spoken for the first time about his divorce from Jennifer Lopez in an interview with GQ magazine, sharing his thoughts on their relationship and the split.
He explained that he decided to participate in J.Lo's documentary "The Greatest Love Story Never Told" to treat their love story in an honest and interesting way.
Affleck also praised Lopez, saying she has handled fame better and is more open than he is. He described himself as more reserved and private and noted that this could cause differences in their lifestyle. He added:
"As happens in relationships, you don't always have the same attitude about some things."
Regarding their breakup, Affleck said:
"There are no scandals, it's not a soap opera, there's no intrigue. The truth is much more common than people might think."
Thus, Affleck broke the hearts of many curious people who were hoping that the actor would not be so politically correct in his statement.
He emphasized that the breakup was a story about two people trying to figure out their lives and relationships, just like we all do. For him, their breakup had no big dramatic cause, and he thinks that people often look for causes for breakups, but the reality is much more common.
Affleck and Lopez rekindled their romance in 2021, after a love story that began in 2002 and was followed by a split a year later. They married in 2022, but Lopez filed for divorce in August 2024, a process that was finalized in January 2025.
In an interview with Interview magazine, Lopez also spoke about the end of the relationship, saying that she has no regrets about their love story, but she experienced it as a very difficult period nonetheless.
