King Charles hospitalized amid cancer battle

King Charles III was briefly hospitalized in the midst of his battle with cancer.

"Following planned and ongoing medical treatment for cancer, the King this morning experienced temporary side effects that required a short period of observation in hospital," a Buckingham Palace spokesman told The Sun on Thursday.

The period of hospitalization was brief and the monarch returned to Clarence House yesterday afternoon and rescheduled all his engagements for today, "as a precautionary measure, acting on medical advice," the spokesman added.

According to The Sun, Charles was taken to the hospital by car, not an ambulance.

King Charles was diagnosed with cancer in early 2024, after he underwent a recent procedure to treat a benign enlarged prostate. In a statement in February, the palace noted that during treatment, doctors discovered "a particularly concerning issue," with "subsequent diagnostic tests" identifying it as "a form of cancer."

Buckingham Palace said at the time:

"The King is grateful to his medical team for their prompt intervention, which was made possible by his recent hospital procedure. He remains fully positive about his treatment and looks forward to returning to full public duty as soon as possible."

The king quickly began outpatient treatment for his condition and quickly returned to his royal duties. The palace has not released any information on his health this year.
