We believe you are already familiar with the shocking murder of 22-year-old Albanian girl, Ilaria Sula, whose body was found in a suitcase in a densely forested area. She was killed by her Filipino-born boyfriend, Mark Samson, 23.
According to the killer's testimony, he had found Ilarian texting someone else. La Repubblica reported that Samson told investigators:
"I entered the room and found Ilarian texting someone. I asked her to show me her phone and she was talking to someone else. Then she gave me back my engagement ring and that's when I lost it. I couldn't accept the breakup and I killed her."
Who helped the killer?
There are allegations that the boy's mother helped him hide the body in a suitcase and cover his tracks. According to investigators, two of Samson's friends may have been accomplices, who may have also helped hide the body.
Evidence of their connection to the incident is the cell phones to which the victim's cell phone was connected, which was used by the killer to communicate with her family, so as not to arouse suspicion. These cell phones match the residence of the suspects, who have been questioned but have denied the charges.
According to the investigating judge, Samson may influence the evidence, as there is still no trace of the deceased's phone, and the dynamics of hiding the body are still unclear.
The girl's last message
The deceased's parents have also shown the last voice message that Ilaria had sent them: "See if you agree! Then I will give the money and we will solve the problems. Ok, tell me again," she said before disappearing, to be massacred by the 23-year-old.
Below you will read a summary of the crime that shocked Italy and our entire country.
Crime dynamics
The young Albanian woman was a student who shared an apartment with other girls. She had left home on March 25, but her body was found on April 2.
How the police tracked down the perpetrator
The perpetrator is suspected of using a knife to kill the young woman, who he then put in a suitcase and threw in the wooded area. After losing contact, the girl's family was alarmed and asked for police help to find her.
The incident was revealed thanks to the victim's phone records, which were kept by the perpetrator. The latter occasionally posted on social networks, pretending to be the victim. He also sent several messages to the victim's family members as if it were her, so that they would not suspect. He is also said to have thrown the phone into a well.
Although the family reported the incident on the evening of March 25, when the young woman did not return home, the police were only able to find the body 8 days later. After finding the body, the police were able to identify and arrest the perpetrator, with the help of telephone records.
The author's first testimony
"I threw her phone into a well in Rome, loaded her body into my car and drove her to Polignano," the young man said during his testimony.
On the other hand, local media report that the reason may have been the young Albanian woman's request for separation, which was not accepted by the author.
Family members' testimonies
The victim's mother, Gëzime Sula, has given her testimony, underlining that she realized something was wrong because her daughter was not answering her phone, but was only sending her messages.
"I immediately realized that something was wrong. Then I spoke to friends who lived with her and together with my husband we decided to immediately report her disappearance, thanks also to Inspector Moreno Fernandez who was recommended to me by a friend from Terni. I know that the investigations immediately led to the boy with whom Ilaria had gone out in the past, but we know little about him," the mother said, reports Il Messagero.
On the other hand, the victim's brother stated that the young woman and the perpetrator had separated for a long time.
"I last spoke to Ilaria two weeks ago, because she came to visit us in Terni. She was calm and didn't tell me about any problems, then only messages, but I'm not sure she had written to her. I knew her, they had been together for a year, but they had been separated for a long time," the 20-year-old confessed.
