Oprah Winfrey has faced harsh criticism from fans after her latest show, "Oprah's Book Club," featured Beyonce's mother, Tina Knowles.
The famous actress had invited her friend to the show, thanks to the promotion of the latter's book "Matriarch". The book talks about the life of the mother of two famous daughters, Beyoncé and Solange, dealing with fame, prejudices as a black woman, as well as life in general, including her two marriages to Mathew Knowles and Richard Lawson.
But what caused criticism was a sentence related to the guest's personal life.
Oprah Winfrey, during the interview, called the way she recounted the entire history of her relationships in this book "admirable."
"We are fully involved in your story, all the people who have been part of your life, of course your ex-husband," Oprah said in one part of the podcast, before reemphasizing: "ex-husbands," in the plural.
This sentence sparked quite a reaction on social media, where many people criticized Oprah for pointing out Knowles' partners, especially emphasizing that it is about more than one ex-husband.
“Oprah, treacherous as always,” wrote one user on X (formerly Twitter).
"It was completely unnecessary. Better keep your place because we don't tolerate it when it comes to mom Tina," added another.
"Nonsense and weird - this is why I don't like Oprah anymore. Always looking for attention at the expense of others," wrote another person.
However, there were also those who defended Oprah, emphasizing that she and Tina have been friends for a long time and that the comments were simply in jest.
"Oprah and Tina are friends - calm down. That was hilarious," one user wrote.
Tina Knowles was married to Mathew Knowles from 1980 to 2011. The couple have two daughters together – singer Beyoncé (43) and Solange (38). They divorced after Mathew's infidelity.
In 2015, Tina married actor Richard Lawson, but she filed for divorce from him in 2023, citing ongoing misunderstandings between them as the reason for this decision.
