During the year that we left, according to INSTAT data, natural populations of the population were 7130 persons, the lowest level, at least since 1948, a few years after the end of World War II.

Although early (but not grouped year-by-year) data show that Albania has at present the natural increase of the population at lower levels since 1923, as the population increase over the years 1923-1945 according to official data was on average over 18 thousand people per year.

During 2018, 28,934 children were born, dropping by 6.3% compared to the previous year. For the first time, the number of infants born fell below 30,000. Meanwhile, the number of deaths in 2018 was 21,804 persons, a decrease of 1.9% compared to the previous year. From here we understand that the natural increase has deteriorated as the birth rate was higher than the fall in deaths.

On the other hand, the number of declining marriages and the fertility index indicate that the number of births will be declining in the future. In Albania almost all births come through marriages, while the number of marriages in 2017 was 11% lower than in 2010. If not enough, many of the marriages occur with immigrants who after joining the crown in Albania choose to leave abroad.
