We have learned to maintain distance, disinfect the home, and clean phones to prevent the spread of coronavirus.
What about clothes? Does the virus survive in clothes and how can we clean them?
The World Health Organization says it is still uncertain how long the virus lives on surfaces, but with information that "the virus can stay on the surface for several hours to several days."
Harvard Health suggests the virus is more likely to survive on hard surfaces than on soft fabrics such as laundry. However, doctors advise that we remove our shoes and clothing as we enter the home.
American public health institutions instruct that clothes be washed with warm water and thoroughly dried. Also, do not forget to disinfect the laundry bins.
Anyone who cares about washing a sick person's clothes should use gloves and throw them away after each use. Be sure to wash your hands and do not shake unwashed clothes to prevent the virus from spreading in the air.
