"She is devastated by Floyd's death," Kellie Chauvin and her family said in a statement. "I express my condolences to his family, relatives and anyone who is upset."

Kellie Chauvin has no children from her marriage to a police officer and it is unclear how long they have been married.

The officer's wife has also been criminally charged with writing a fake check. The incident reportedly took place in 2005, when Kellie was married to another person. She terminated her obligations to Pick'N Save and the case was closed.

In 2018, Kellie was declared the winner in the beauty contest Mrs. Minnesota America and in an interview said:

"After that uniform, he is so sweet. He is a real gentleman. He still opens the door for me, puts on my coat. After the divorce, I had a list of things my partner should have if I started a relationship again and he fulfilled it all. ?

Derek Chauvin was arrested Friday in connection with Floyd's death, sparking violent nationwide protests . He is facing charges of third-degree murder - as long as it has not been established that the murder was intentional. The three other officers present at the scene were fired and are being investigated. They are not facing murder charges, but that could change.

According to the police report, Chauvin made Floyd's breathing difficult by placing his knee for 8 minutes and 46 seconds in total, while during the last 2 minutes and 53 seconds, Floyd did not react.
