After the restaurants opened people?s biggest concern was whether it was safe to go out to eat out or not? In consultation with two specialists, Manisha Juthani (Professor of Medicine at Yale) and Jade Flinn (a nurse educator at John Hopkins Hospital) we took this advice.

Can the virus be transmitted through food?
The virus can be transmitted if you stay with an infected person for at least 10 minutes close to each other. Infection through food is not one of the primary ways of infection however the risk exists.

Is it safer to consume food outdoors than indoors?
Yes, because in an open care more air circulates and there is a natural ventilation process.

How can the risk of being infected with Covid-19 during eating be minimized?
Some of the most important tips are those of eating out; avoiding contact with people; putting on the mask even while eating; as well as hand washing before and after the meal.

How dangerous is lunch / dinner with a group of people?
The only danger remains that you need to know who you are having lunch with. If the people are healthy and have not shown symptoms of the virus everything is fine.

Is it safe to use the same items that previous customers used such as: tablecloths; dishes; glasses?
It is very difficult for the virus to be picked up by objects, so they are not a concern.

Is the use of the restaurant toilet safe?
As long as you wash your hands before and after using the toilet, you have no reason to worry.

Is there a greater risk when eating in a restaurant than when ordering or going to a supermarket?
Yes, because in restaurants you can't control people coming and going.
