FKA Twigs, whose real name is Tahliah Debrett Barnett, says she has continued to have panic attacks, following her abusive relationship with actor Shia LaBeouf.
The British singer detailed for the first time the full "fear and shame" she felt during her nine-month romance with the actor.
She revealed that she got the courage to leave LaBeouf herself after calling a helpline for the abuse.
In an interview with Louis Theroux on his BBC podcast, Radio 4, "Grounded", FKA claimed that the actor had stopped her from seeing other men in the eye and that he had isolated her from friends and family.
She says she felt "like the worst man" and thought no one would believe her as passersby failed to help her when LeBeouf allegedly tried to strangle her at a gas station.
"I felt it was impossible to leave, I felt controlled," she said.
The pair met on the "Honey Boy" movie set in 2018 and split in May 2019.
In December 2020, the Twigs sued LeBeouf for sexual assault, emotional abuse and intentional transmission of the disease.
She told Theroux that there was "an intense honeymoon period in the beginning" before LaBeouf's behavior became abusive.
The FKA said it gradually became aware that he was "controlling" and not just "jealous" and noted that "small mistakes could ruin all the happiness between them".
"It seemed to him as if I was flirting or asking for something more from a waiter, when I was just ordering pasta and being polite. He told me that "I knew what he was like" and that "if I loved him, I would not look other men in the eye".
The singer said that she started walking with her head down and isolated from family and friends, adding:
"I thought these actions and this life I started living would keep me out of trouble."

LeBeouf i ka thënë New York Times se shumë nga pretendimet e Twigs nuk janë të vërteta, por tha se ai i detyrohej asaj dhe Karolyn Pho, një grua tjetër pretendimet e së cilës paraqiten në proces gjyqësor, "mundësinë për të transmetuar deklaratat e tyre publikisht, që dhe ai të pranonte përgjegjësinë për ato që ka bërë.”
