China confirms first human-to-human transmission of bird flu H10N3

A 41-year-old in China's eastern Jiangsu province has been confirmed as the first human case of H10N3 bird flu infection, although health officials in China said the risk of spreading it remains low.

The man, a resident of Zhenjiang city, went to the hospital on April 28 after he had a fever and other symptoms, the National Health Commission in China said.

He was diagnosed with the H10N3 bird flu virus on May 28th. The 41-year-old was in stable condition and ready to leave the hospital. Medical observation of his close contacts found no other case.

Many different types of bird flu are present in China and some sporadically infect people, usually those who work with birds. There have not been a significant number of human infections with bird flu since H7N9 killed about 300 people during 2016-2017.
