King Charles III assumed the title of monarch after the death of Queen Elizabeth II, and naturally, everything about him makes news, even the things we never think of.

For some time, the king's swollen fingers have gone viral on the Internet and people have often compared them to sausages. *How wild is the internet*.

Amid the multitude of comments and concerns from people, doctor and lecturer at the University of Chester, Gareth Nye, explained why the king's fingers are swollen and there are several possibilities:

1. Edema or fluid accumulation

According to the doctor, edema is a condition in which the body begins to accumulate fluids in the limbs, legs and joints, but in some cases, also in the fingers, which causes them to swell. Edema is a common condition and mostly affects people over the age of 65, as the body's ability to control fluids is more limited.

2. Arthritis

Dr. Nye did not rule out the possibility of arthritis, which affects the knuckles. Usually, the toes become stiffer and more swollen and painful. Although medication can reduce the pain, the swelling remains.

3. Other causes

The doctor also pointed out that unusual causes may include high salt consumption, or side effects of medical medications, such as those for high blood pressure.

But, despite these, Dr. Nyje said that whatever the reason behind Charles' swollen fingers, it is not a symptom of any major problem. "Certainly there are no immediate health concerns that can be inferred from the swollen fingers and it is very likely from his age," he added.
