We are used to hearing about very powerful passports, such as those of Japan or Singapore, which enable visa-free travel to their citizens in 189+ countries of the world, but let's get to know the most exclusive passport!
We're talking about what the Sovereign Military Order of Malta owns! Only 500 people worldwide have this passport and it is the rarest identification and travel document approved by the Catholic Order. The sovereignty of the Order was recognized by Pope Paschal in 1113 and today, the passport is 910 years old.
Who can get this passport?
Diplomatic passports, according to the Sovereign Order of Malta, are issued only to members of the Sovereign Council (governors), heads and members of its diplomatic missions, as well as their spouses and minor children, - with some exceptions - also senior figures who must carry out a special mission within the Order of Malta.
Where can the passport be used?
The order is active in 120 countries and provides medical, social and humanitarian assistance to passport holders.
This means of travel is valid for 4 years. Its validity is also related to the duration of the task of the individual who owns it.
But, in the Schengen area, this passport is not so useful, as only 12 out of 26 countries recognize the document. Also, it is not accepted in USA, New Zealand and UK.
