How many times is it considered ~normal~ to pee in a day?

There are days when you have to go to the bathroom for the umpteenth time, just as there are days when you can stay for hours and hours without stepping on the toilet door. Now, how often do you need to pee to consider yourself healthy? Should you be concerned if you start urinating more or less?

"What is considered normal depends on one person to another," says Keri Peterson, a doctor in New York. According to statistics, people go to the toilet on average six to seven times.

Urination is also caused by many external factors such as: fluid consumption, bladder size, caffeine or smoking. Sweating also affects the more you sweat, the less you will urinate.

So how do you know if you're urinating more or less than normal?

More than how often or infrequently, the way you urinate is important. If you go to the toilet a lot, but urinate little, this means that you have an overactive bladder and you can stabilize it through kegel exercises or by changing your diet and medication (consult your doctor about this).

If you're urinating more than usual and have pain or burning, you may be suffering from a urinary tract infection, which is extremely common in women. You should check it out!

A doctor's appointment is necessary even if the frequency of urination has changed suddenly, signs of blood appear or you feel like urinating two or three times during the night.
