Spanish football federation president Luis Rubiales has been criticized after he kissed striker Jenni Hermoso on the lips after Spain's 1-0 win over England in the World Cup final in Sydney on Sunday night.
The kiss - given on stage during the official post-match ceremony - was caught on camera and sparked outrage on social media.
Jenni Hermoso said on a live stream afterward that she "didn't like that." In comments later given to Agence France-Presse, she said: "It was a totally spontaneous reciprocal gesture because of the immense joy that comes with winning the World Cup."
"The president and I have a great relationship, his behavior with all of us has been exceptional and it was a natural gesture of love and gratitude."
Luis Rubiales told Radio Marca it was a "trivial gesture of love" and rejected suggestions the kiss was inappropriate.
Videos from the celebrations also show Rubiales kissing other players on the cheek and hugging them.
In an eventful evening, the federation also revealed that captain and winner for Spain, Olga Carmona, revealed after the match that her father had died.
