Hairdressers are like magicians: They make us look like Hollywood stars on special occasions, but also during everyday life when before going to work, we first pass by their salons. They are said to be the best listeners because the details of the hair, color, cut, style and every other story is heard with great eagerness, except for any dissatisfaction about the undesirable result with the next client. But are they mind readers? Of course not.
"The worst thing you can say to a hairdresser is 'I trusted you,'" experts say. They appreciate honesty, but when clients are unhappy with the results because they realize they actually wanted something different, that's not it's something likeable.
Whether you are new to the hairdresser or a regular customer, they as professionals never know exactly what you want. This is also due to the fact that the interpretation of colors is something very personal, so often referring to certain photos is what is needed to better understand the change you want without damaging your hair.
As Los Angeles hairstylist Sienree Du explains: “The interpretation of colors and tones is so different. You have to go with concrete examples to be more useful and more specific about the things you want,” she points out.
How about being more specific in your ideas to hairdressers?
We are all indecisive as we sit in the salon chair while the hairdresser stands at our head. Instead of putting all the blame on them, you can honestly say, "I've looked at different photos for inspiration, but I haven't found anything I like yet. Can you help me decide?"
