Have you felt bloated after a workout and wondered why? Post-workout bloating isn't an acceptable condition, but it's actually more common than you might think. Samantha Nazareth, a gastroenterologist at the American College of Gastroenterology, lists six of the main reasons.

- Your body is digesting food . When you exercise, the digestive process slows down as your body redirects blood flow to your muscles, explains Dr. Nazareth. Exercise-induced bloating, along with other gastrointestinal symptoms, are sometimes simply related to this physiological fact.

-You swallowed air during exercise. Accidental introduction of air into the stomach can cause bloating. "In the case of exercise, this can happen if you breathe through your mouth," says Nazareth.

- You drank carbonated or sugary drinks. Carbonation through drinks can cause bloating by introducing gas into the stomach.

- You are dehydrated and/or constipated. Dehydration and fluid loss is common during exercise and is a major cause of constipation that can lead to bloating.

-You are taking painkillers . Those pain relievers you have taken for muscle pain can affect the symptoms of bloating.

- Your body is not used to intense activity . Whether you're new to the gym or outdoor exercise, various studies have shown that exercise can disrupt the balance of your gut microbiota, which can lead to bloating, cramping, nausea and diarrhea.
