Karma Is Not What You Think: What Are We All Getting Wrong?

We all have that friend who, after some great injustice, posts: “Karma will get the hack… but when? I'm waiting!" You too can be this friend. In recent years, many people feel like cosmic justice is delayed, especially when unwanted people move from one scandal to another without a thorn in their side. But here's the problem: our idea of ??karma is completely wrong.

Karma is not "cosmic" revenge. It is not a system of rewarding the good and punishing the bad. It doesn't work like some magic that automatically solves the world's injustices. In fact, karma is much simpler (and more complex) than that. It's about cause and effect: every action we take has an impact, on us and on others. These influences create a chain of new outcomes and choices. If you are polite, your life will generally be smoother - but there are no absolute guarantees.

An example worth considering is that of Jarvis Jay Masters, a Buddhist author who has spent over 34 years on death row for a crime he says he did not commit. In an environment filled with violence and aggression, he has chosen peace. When the prison guards bully him, he doesn't retaliate because he knows that if he explodes, that anger could spill over to an innocent child when the guard goes home. Masters has made a simple choice not to spread more violence in the world. He is not free, but he is calmer. And his choice has made the world better for the children of the guards and for the people who have read his story.

What can we learn from this? First, karma is related to our every action. Everything we do, even the smallest, has an effect. And by changing the way we act, we change ourselves. When we focus on the karma of others, expecting the universe to punish them for their mistakes, we only burden ourselves with anger and stress. Instead, focus on your actions and the impact they have. You may not see immediate change in the outside world, but you will feel calmer inside.

So let's leave the karma of others and focus on our own. Because what awaits us will not be easy. It will take a lot of strength and mental balance. Better to focus our attention where we have control: the choices we make every day. Because, after all, karma isn't the revenge we're waiting for. It is the peace we can create ourselves.
