The Norwegian Nobel Institute announced on Wednesday, March 5, the list of nominees for this year's Nobel Peace Prize. According to the Institute, the list totals 338 nominees, of whom 244 are individuals and 94 are organizations.
The number of nominations this year has increased significantly compared to 286 nominees in 2024. However, it remains lower than the record of 376 candidates nominated in 2016.
According to the statute, the full list of candidates is not made public. However, those who nominate someone for the Nobel Peace Prize are not obliged to keep the identity of their nominee secret.
Some of the nominees
US Congressman Darrell Aisha announced that he has nominated US President Donald Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize, claiming that "no one deserves it more than he does." The congressman's office explained that Trump's efforts for peace in the Middle East prompted Aisha to take this initiative. Trump has also been nominated by Ukrainian MP Oleksandr Mereshko, according to local media.
On the other hand, Giselle Pélicot , who became a symbol for the rights of rape victims during the trial of her rapist ex-husband, an event that touched the whole world, is also said to be a contender.
Meanwhile, members of the Norwegian parliament announced that they have nominated former NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg, as well as UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres and Pope Francis .
Last year, the Nobel Peace Prize was awarded to the Japanese organization Nihon Hidankyo, a movement of survivors of the atomic bombs in Hiroshima and Nagasaki, which campaigns against the spread of nuclear weapons, highlighting why they "must never be used again."
